Who or what inspires you professionally?

My teammates and co-workers inspire me in the variety of ways as we work together to bring a design to fruition. The creativity of our design partners and the willingness of our clients to explore the concepts we present to them fuels this feeling.

ZOË FISHER

Bio:

The great architect, Zoë Fisher, AIA, is an architect in Gresham Smith’s Aviation market. She has seven years of design experience with expertise in airport terminals and is heavily involved in Charlotte Douglas International Airport’s terminal lobby expansion. Zoë is a graduate of Savannah College of Art & Design where she earned a Master of Architecture and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Architecture.

 

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

My father is a general contractor and I was raised in the A/E/C world. I have always been involved in the visual arts, and it was spending time on my father’s construction sites that showed me I could mesh my creative mind with tangible creations.

What do you do?

I am responsible for developing programmatic requirements and design concepts, as well as providing construction administration phase services. It is my goal to provide innovative design solutions that enhance the passenger experience.

What excites you in the work you do?

I’m excited by the ability to translate a drawn idea into physical reality that creates an experience. As an aviation designer, I can influence the first and last impressions that passengers have in a city.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

I will always feel profoundly proud when I have the opportunity look at a completed project, knowing that what is standing was brought forth from paper

Featured Project Description:

The 370,000-square-foot expansion/renovation of is an essential part of its long-term construction and development plan to meet the growing demand of one of the busiest airports nationwide in terms of operations. The new terminal lobby aims to provide passengers the royal treatment, marrying a sense of place and delight with smart design. A statue of Queen Charlotte is a prominent fixture at the airport and provided inspiration for our design coupled with touches of southern hospitality.
