Who or what inspires you professionally?
It has got to be my wife - she is a great environmental engineer! I am also inspired by people who are resilient and have a tremendous work ethic. I also have an incredible boss and some amazing coworkers who have overcome many barriers to be where they are.

Bio:
The Great Designer, Wiraj is a licensed professional engineer in California, Oregon, Washington and several other states in the US. He grew up in Mumbai, India and holds a Master's degree in Civil Engineering. He has been involved in the design and construction, including retrofitting and strengthening of more than 300 buildings. He is a member of the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI), where he currently volunteers in the Public Policy committee. He is also a member of the Structural Engineers Association of California (SEAOC), American Institute of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC).
How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?
I first learned about architecture as a kid in India visiting the Taj Mahal and the many temples all over the country that are carved out of stone, which is simply fascinating. My interest in the built environment grew after moving to California.
What do you do?
I love to provide great engineering solutions! It is very satisfying when the design team appreciates your ideas and the effort you put in to make the vision of the home come true for the client.
What excites you in the work you do?
Seeing the final product of your work which was only on paper prior to construction.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?
I am proud of everything I have achieved - be it the completion of a project or winning an award. A lot of effort and care goes into each project and every accomplishment or achievement and therefore, it will be unfair to pick just one!

Featured Project Description:
Stone Pine Residence is a modern farmhouse. The owner of the house is also a general contractor who specializes in design and construction. The design embraces its natural surroundings on the outside and exudes a sense of coziness with a rustic yet modern aesthetic on the inside. The house was built using materials that were locally available and meets the low carbon concrete requirements of the County. Radiant heating in the floors ensures the energy efficiency of the building is very high.
