Bio:
The Great Designer Timothy L. Johnson I (Tim) is a licensed Architect in the State of Florida, with more than 30 years of design and construction experience. Tim is a graduate from Florida A&M University School of Architecture. He began his practice with a firm and later branched out on his own before joining the City of Orlando in 2002 as the City Architect. He was promoted to the Division Manager for Permitting Services and is currently serving as Deputy Director of Economic Development.
How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?
When I watched my parents add to our home 6 times; The home ultimately became a 6 bedroom, 4 bath home with three family rooms, and it sits on 1 acre.
What do you do?
I work with people who often don't have options and are trying to make life better for themselves and their families.
What excites you in the work you do?
Seeing people thrive in difficult situations; Seeing a problem become an asset for people; Helping them to gain generational wealth

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?
Becoming one of the FIRST to open a practice in Orlando; Becoming FIRST CITY ARCHITECT in Orlando; Becoming FIRST Black Building Official in Orlando; Chartering FIRST NOMA Chapter in Florida; Becoming Second Black President of AIA Orlando
