I am most inspired by current Black Architects and Designers. Whether I’m following them on Instagram or sharing learning experiences at networking events, it is always encouraging to see black designers who are leading change within the profession.
TIANA HOWELL
Bio:
The great designer, Tiana Howell is a Junior Architectural Designer at BAM Creative, based in New York, NY. Tiana graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Architecture from the University of Maryland in College Park in 2017, and recently graduates with a Masters of Architecture from the Spitzer School of Architecture at the City College of New York.
How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?
I first learned about Architecture at about 10 years old, but was inspired to pursue architecture during high school when I first met a Black female architect who taught that I could make a difference within the built environment.
What do you do?
As a Junior Architectural Designer, I currently work at BAM Creative, in New York, and work primarily on Healthcare and Life Science facilities in New York and Connecticut.
What excites you in the work you do?
I am most excited about the problem solving aspect of architectural design. The ability to contribute a unique perspective to design teams, allows for exciting opportunities for creative solutions that I genuinely appreciate as a young professional.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?
My proudest accomplishment right now is finishing Graduate School and volunteering with my alma maters as an alum. It is so important that I am now in a position to give back to the next generation of architecture students any way I can.

I collaborated with my partner Arezoo Issapour in research, concept development, and structural elements that incorporate conceptual air quality control.
Featured Project Description:
The Respiratory Center of El Chorrillo is a health facility that focuses on the education and healing of residents suffering with respiratory conditions. Providing a learning and health center for the community, the building provides elements that provide a gathering space for the neighborhood while also providing quality air control.
