STACY FEIT
Bio:
The Great designer, Stacy is a senior architect who prefers to focus on civic architecture as a way of giving back to the community. She has collaborated on numerous library and public safety projects, expressing her strong feeling for designers’ social responsibility to create spectacular public spaces within the built environment. She lived and worked in Baltimore and Chicago before settling back at “home” in Omaha in the Midwest, and now focuses on mentoring the next generation of architects.
How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?
I was in college and my older sister was studying engineering, which broke a barrier for me. Then I began to consider architectural engineering and realized that did not sound fun. I realized “architect” was the profession I was looking for.
What do you do?
I am a senior project architect. I really enjoy turning a napkin sketch into the built form. I coordinate all of the different design and engineering disciplines to deliver amazing projects to my clients.
What excites you in the work you do?
I love the entire process from understanding my client’s true needs, putting together the programmatic puzzle pieces and finally figuring out the details of how it all goes together. Seeing my project built and people enjoying it is the best feeling.
Who or what inspires you professionally?
I find civic design truly inspiring. Using my skills as an architect to create spaces that enrich the lives of the public through great buildings gives me so much pride.
What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?
One of my proudest accomplishments was creating this police precinct. The intention was to strengthen ties between police and community. We created this beautiful building with a bright and welcoming front facade to encourage healthy interactions.
