SARAH ROLFVONDENBAUMEN

Bio:

The great designer, Sarah Rolfvondenbaumen is a healthcare architect in the Houston studio of Perkins&Will. Sarah is passionate about using architecture to do the most good for the most people, pairing thoughtful design with functional outcomes. Outside of the office, Sarah is involved with the WiA Houston committee and is Vice Chair of the 2021-22 CKLDP committee. In her free time, she prioritizes spending time in Houston’s beautiful parks with her husband and daughter.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

My high school art teacher encouraged me to attend a design discovery camp at Mississippi State University, and I was hooked after spending the week building models, investigating the built environment, and learning in a studio environment.

What do you do?

As a project architect, I develop projects from programming through construction. I work with designers, subject matter experts, and consultant teams to create healthcare environments that are beautiful and functional for the end user.

What excites you in the work you do?

I love solving challenging space planning problems. I also enjoy never having two days be exactly the same – there is always something new to learn!

Who or what inspires you professionally?

I am inspired by the teams that I am part of. I love learning from others and passing on that knowledge to the next generation of architects and designers.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

I am most proud when I hear that the built design exceeds the expectations of the users! Ensuring that the design intent established at the beginning of the project is implemented into reality, makes the daily struggles worth it!
