Tennessee Based Designer

Who or what inspires you professionally?

I find my inspiration in the work that my clients do. The real value in architecture is what the building allows to occur. Our environments should support us in our daily lives and provide enough awe and wonder to encourage creative thought.

SARAH DEXHEIMER

Bio:

Sarah has built her career around leveraging design to tackle challenges and foster community engagement. Her expertise lies in grasping the unique needs of each project and delivering innovative and imaginative solutions to the team. She takes pride in infusing creativity and value into her clients' visions. Her approach to architecture projects is marked by a distinctive blend of active listening, technical expertise, and keen analytical skills.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

It was a high school AP Art History course that got me to think about architecture consciously. The teacher had a special love for the architecture. Her excitement resonated with me, as I was already designing and building sets for our school plays.

What do you do?

I’m a principal at Orcutt | Winslow. I help connect the right people to the right project. Everyday, my goal is to help the people around me. That can be by connecting them with the correct resource or being a sounding board to solve a problem.

What excites you in the work you do?

Every day I get to learn something new and create something unique. In order to design for someone I have to understand their needs, their vision, their daily routines. So the opportunity to learn extends to learning about everyone I work for.

Who or what inspires you professionally?

I find my inspiration in the work that my clients do. The real value in architecture is what the building allows to occur. Our environments should support us in our daily lives and provide enough awe and wonder to encourage creative thought.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

I really love going to a project 2 or 3 years after the building is finished and seeing how it has been lived in. This is the time where you can see if people have made the space their own. That’s when you know if your design succeeded or not.
