Who or what inspires you professionally?
 
What inspires me professionally, is being able to one day soon be part of the growing community of minority architects creating impactful change in the profession.

REGINALD R. WILSON JR

Bio:

The Great Designer, Reginald Wilson Jr, also known as RJ, is a native of Charleston, SC, where his interest in architecture developed. He graduated with his Masters degree in Architecture this past May from Clemson University. He currently resides in Greenville, SC and holds the position of project manager at MOA Architecture. He is currently working towards obtaining his license.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

As a kid growing up around the historic architecture in Charleston. I didn't know what an architect was, but I knew I wanted to be one. In high school I took a few drafting classes, and they solidified my interest in further pursuing architecture.

What do you do?

Currently, I am a Project Manager at MOA Architecture in Greenville, SC as I work toward gaining licensure.

 

What excites you in the work you do?

Being able to design and create spaces that will impact people’s daily lives. There's something about seeing people using and interacting with something I had a part in designing that is a truly humbling experience.

Who or what inspires you professionally?

What inspires me professionally, is being able to one day soon be part of the growing community of minority architects creating impactful change in the profession.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

With my professional career just starting, I don't have a proudest accomplishment right now. But I'm excited to see what the profession has in store for me and what accomplishments will be achieved in the future.

Featured Project Description:

NEXUS COMMONS in Atlanta serves as a residential resource center for at-risk youth aged 13-21, aiming to restore their sense of worthiness and courage. The center offers public programs for the broader community, while fostering connections and providing life and business skills to empower the youth for success beyond their stay. NEXUS COMMONS aims to nurture these skills with a teaching kitchen, maker space, community garden, innovation business center, art and music studios, and a restaurant.
