Who or what inspires you professionally?

Those who take the time to understand the users and dare to propose new ways of interacting with well-established spaces or services are always a source of inspiration for me.

REBECCA LIM

Bio:

As an architect, Rebecca likes to consider the importance of the places where we live and work and the difference good design can make in how we experience them. She has worked on bespoke retail fitouts and customisable apartments, each presenting a unique opportunity to help articulate the aspirations of brands and users alike. Her understanding of how people use spaces informs how her designs can adapt over time and change to their needs.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

A close mentor of mine who worked as an architect inspired me. We share many similarities and interests, design sensibilities and how we relate to people. When deciding on which course to pursue, I give architecture a shot.

What do you do?

Design is central to everything that I do. Through collaboration I seek to understand the fundamental challenges that people face and enjoy bringing everyone on a journey towards solving a design problem.

What excites you in the work you do?

Being part of the process of taking a vision of what could be possible and bringing that to life. Also being able to create spaces where people can live, work, and ultimately thrive in is something that brings me a great sense of purpose.

Who or what inspires you professionally?

Those who take the time to understand the users and dare to propose new ways of interacting with well-established spaces or services are always a source of inspiration for me.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

Designing, coordinating and customising 130 apartments within our Saint Moritz project in Melbourne. I was responsible for managing the customisation process and alongside my team was able to implement these configurations and see them come to life.

The natural splendour of distinctive flora, golden sand and rippling water characterise the building’s form and function, whilst achieving a harmonious balance within the surrounding environment.
