Baltimore, MD
Featured Project Completion Date:
1996
Role in Featured Project:
Principal in Charge, Project Designer
Featured Project Description:
The Commons, now Founders Green, at the Maryland Institute College of Art, is an apartment style residence hall for 400 art students. It is inspired by the Bolton Hill townhouses and the romantic idea of the French garret apartment for artists. Urbanistically, the complex recognizes the surrounding street grid at its south and west entrances. One enters into the center of the lower courtyard only to find oneself at the edge of the upper court, under the colonnade, upon traversing the stairs.
