PAUL BAMSON
Bio:
The great designer, Paul Bamson was born in Nigeria and have lived in Nashville, TN for most of my life. During my architecture and landscape architecture education at the University of Tennessee, the marriage of ecology and ecosystems with the built environment and technology became a passion. This passion led me to SOM Chicago, where I practice urban design to impact the built environment on a larger scale. I aspire to continue sharing knowledge, learning to master my skills and craft, and better lives through design.
How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?
Architecture was not a profession I was exposed to growing up. During my senior year of high school, I decided to search for a profession that complimented my skills in math and art. Architecture not only fit the bill but allowed me to excel!
What do you do?
With degrees in Architecture and Landscape Architecture, I practice Urban Design at SOM Chicago. As Co-Chair of the I-NOMA Professional Development Committee, I run a monthly YDIW session with each covering a different software program or technique.
What excites you in the work you do?
As a student in college that everyone went to for help on specific software tips or design ideas, I enjoyed helping others improve their skill sets. I am always excited to share the knowledge that I have acquired so that others save time and benefit.
Who or what inspires you professionally?
The rapidly advancing world of technology inspires me to continuously learn and improve my skills professionally. Not only do I just want to keep up with this pace of change, I want to lead and integrate it in the design profession.
What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?
Along side my work in urban design at SOM, I have been leading research into creating parametric frameworks which streamline the digital modeling workflow of smart and responsive city design. I am only a year in, so there will be much more to come!
