Who or what inspires you professionally?
We recently visited Epoch Estate Wines and met with the owner’s representative architect. It was great to discuss the design elements with him, and to discover there were 200 pages of details (for a really small project) in the original drawings.

Bio:
Nina hails from a family of accomplished women, including an engineer mother and a doctor grandmother. She had a childhood fascination with architecture and studied it in depth, earning a BA of Arch. from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and studying at the Danish Institute of Study Abroad. Nina founded Catch Architecture in 2016, specializing in high-design custom residential. She brings structure to the design process , listening and articulating a client's vision with strong attention to detail.
How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?
I have early memories of road trips with my parents, where I would admire the old homes around the Bay Area. It was the details that drew me in. I then took an architecture high school elective and that opened my eyes to the discipline and industry.
What do you do?
I am the Founder + Principal Architect of Catch Architecture. A people-forward studio in Paso Robles. I oversee a team of 7 and am responsible for the quality control of our entire portfolio. I'm also focused on educating and strengthening our team.
What excites you in the work you do?
Seeing our clients have that spark of joy when they realize the full potential that exists for their project. There is also something about taking kernels of ideas and seeing how they develop into fully formed design components that is exciting!

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?
Building and leading our team! I’m very proud of how well are team works together and how we collectively drive our vision and values forward on a daily basis. Also, for receiving the AIA CCC Award of Honor in 2019 for the Bennett Valley Residence.

Featured Project Description:
Located in the Bennett Valley Appellation. The Single-Family Residence and Pool House is rooted in its agricultural context by paying homage to the modest beginnings of farmhouses through scale, form, and organization, while modernized with quality of natural light, spatial volume and a strong indoor to outdoor connection. The pool house is perfectly situated with beautiful south facing views. Mimicking the exterior details of the main house the two structures definitely speak the same language.
