Who or what inspires you professionally?
The fact that societies can be shaped by the spaces that surround them. How spaces are designed affects how people move, use, interact, learn and grow within and around them.
NASREEN AL TAMIMI
Bio:
The great designer, Nasreen Al Tamimi is an Emirati Architect and community advocate with 15 years of architectural design work between the UAE and USA. She is co-founder of a non-profit design association that developed and exhibited collaborative participatory design workshops in the UAE for 5 years. As she works towards US architectural licensure, she is working on a collaborative community research project in a low-income neighborhood.
How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?
I asked my math teacher when I was 10, what profession combines my love for math and art and he said Architecture. My first year in Architecture school, I knew that designing spaces was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
What do you do?
I design and collaborate to make an impact and create socially responsible change.
What excites you in the work you do?
The impact the work can create on individuals who participate in the process, and/or become beneficiaries of the work improving their selves, their environments and their lives.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?
Graduating top of my undergraduate class in 2005 as it was a promise I made to my mother, who worked at my university for 4 years so I could study Architecture while she had Cancer. She passed away 3 years after my graduation.

Featured Project Description:
The Neighborhood Kids Design Workshop was created to teach and learn from youth about their neighborhood. We look to uncover potential elements and facilities that are lacking in this low-income community, to help us and neighbors (parents) discover solutions for their neighborhood. The Workshop began in 2020, continuing throughout the coming year. City of Las Vegas Staff and a neighborhood non-profit are collaborating with BRAZENarchitecture to learn more about the neighborhood needs.
