Who or what inspires you professionally?
I would have to say my father who, as a scientist, taught me to always question the "why" and push the boundaries to be more creatively inspired to possibilities and leverage obstacles as opportunities.
NANDITA MISHRA
Bio:
Nandita Mishra is a Vice President and Education Market Strategist at TMP Architecture, focusing on educational planning, design, and project management of K-12 educational facilities. She is a thought leader in the field of K-12 facility planning and a certified educational planner with A4LE, where she is a past Chapter President. Nandita is also involved with the AIA Committee on Architecture for Education. Her work is supported by her teaching background.
How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?
My father shared a book on Frank Lloyd Wright's work when I was young; I fell in love with his philosophy. Later, I was further influenced by Ayn Rand's fictional architect Howard Roark in The Fountainhead; I was inspired by his unconventional point of view.
What do you do?
I help school districts embrace transformation as they fully realize their educational vision by designing for their unique set of needs, turning challenges into successful outcomes that improve learning opportunities for all students.
What excites you in the work you do?
Connecting education, health, and environment to create impactful learning environments that are joyful and wholesome to shape our children as lifelong learners. I strive to create spaces where all feel a sense of place that connects to the world.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?
On the first program I managed and designed for a large school district, I successfully facilitated transformative visioning sessions that informed progressive design. The impact on students was significant, inspiring them to excel and succeed.

Featured Project Description:
Focused on integrating architecture and learning, our all-women team of manager, designer, and architect designed Dublin Elem to foster collaboration and collective participation. The interior is organized as a colorful tapestry of learning communities for each grade level, surrounding the main spine of the school on two levels, Dublin Avenue and its focal point: the Learning Stair. This space brings students together to the heart of the school, creating a school-wide sense of place and belonging.
