Who or what inspires you professionally?

My husband Joseph Arndt, also an architect inspires me everyday. He inspires me to question and analyze architecture design and theory. Also as my true professional peer, he believes in lifting women to walk hand in hand with men in today’s world.

Bio:

The Great architect, Mithila is an experienced Architectural Designer with a demonstrated history of working in the architecture & planning industry. Skilled in AutoCAD, Mixed-use, Adobe Creative Suite, Revit, and RhinoCAM. Strong arts and design professional with a Master of Science (M.Sc.) focused in Architecture from Pratt Institute and a Bachelor of Architecture from KRVIA, Mumbai University. Mithila is also a licensed architect in the Council of Architecture

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

I first learn about architecture from my father. He often talked about how creative architecture is as a profession. I developed a keen interest in sketching many building facades of the colonial architecture of Mumbai during my early teen years.

What do you do?

I am an associate and intermediate architect at S9 architecture. I specialize in residential architecture from design to construction contract administration.

What excites you in the work you do?

The ability to create tangible ideas from brain to paper to computer to reality to actual spaces.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

The completion of Dwana Smallwood Performing Arts Center, Brooklyn, NY. DSPAC is a non-profit organization that helps shape the future of many children through dance and art. I played the role of Lead designer and Project manager for this project.

Featured Project Description:

Mumbai’s dense urban fabric is saturating rapidly, resulting in displacement of historic communities like the “Koli Community”  of Worli, Mumbai, India. The proposal is to create a community that can absorb this population growth and will thrive ‘In-Tandem’ with the existing communities. The ground level is occupied by commercial spaces such as loading docks, fish markets and the Residential structure sits above the podium and houses expats and the original fishing community.
