Who or what inspires you professionally?

My closest studio-mate, Dakota, is someone that inspires me most due to the fact that both her and I have pursued through architectural academia together. She continues to push and challenge me to be the best version and designer that I can be.

Bio:

Michael Boongaling is a current 4th year student and an Accelerated Bachelor to Master Program Candidate within the Department of Architecture at the University of Memphis pursuing a dual Bachelor of Fine Arts in Architecture and Interior Architecture. While going into a career surrounding the built environment was not at the forefront of his mind when attending the university, he began and continues to grow a love for architecture through his peers and mentors that surround him daily.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

I first learned about architecture through smaller perspective projects that art teachers would introduce to me both in middle school and high school. It is through their suggestion that I thought to declare it as my major when applying for college.

What do you do?

I am a 4th Year student and an Accelerated Bachelor to Master Program Candidate within the department of architecture at the University of Memphis currently pursuing my dual Bachelor of Fine Arts in Architecture and Interior Architecture.

What excites you in the work you do?

I think the aspects that excites me most about the work that I do is the elements of collaboration and innovation of testing and challenging the current definition of architecture to find a means of creating better solutions for future generations

Who or what inspires you professionally?

My closest studio-mate, Dakota, is someone that inspires me most due to the fact that both her and I have pursued through architectural academia together. She continues to push and challenge me to be the best version and designer that I can be.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

My proudest professional accomplishment is when I landed my first internship with the firm that I continue to be heavily involved with, UrbanARCH. This is because they had sought after and reached out to me to be a part of their team as an intern.

Role in Featured Project:

Speculative Project Manager

Featured Project Description:

The Gale Environmental Education Center was a speculative group design project consisting of 7 other students within the duration of my 3rd year of architectural academia. This project involved real world clients that hoped to provide a space of environmental learning for their summer camp students. Not only was this a project that allowed us to design for parameters within reality, but it was a project that also showed us how to work collaboratively and convey effectively to clients.
