Bio:
Maggie Lokic is a Senior Landscape Architect with 15 years of design and delivery experience on residential and public space projects in Australia and the United Kingdom. She is on the University of Melbourne Landscape Architecture Board, has run a design studio At RMIT University, and is a regular guest critic for RMIT and University of Melbourne Landscape Architecture Studios.
How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?
In grade six I watched a TV show with an architect showing their work, from that day I decided that I wanted to design and build. With my interest in nature and design, this seemed like a perfect balance.
What do you do?
I’m a Senior Landscape Architect in City Design at the City of Melbourne. I work on a variety of projects ranging from extra-large to very small public space renewals including public spaces, streetscape, playgrounds upgrades and street tree planting

Creatively and imaginatively sensible and technically accurate design solutions
Who or what inspires you professionally? What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?
Street tree planting design. Tree planting seems like run of the mill work. However, a huge team effort goes into achieving outcomes with positive long-term benefits for generations of communities.

Market Square is a proposed public open space on the site of the open-air car park at Melbourne’s Queen Victoria Market (QVM). The site is on the land of the Eastern Kulin Nation. As part of the City of Melbourne’s QVM Precinct Renewal, this parking facility is being relocated into nearby buildings: within the Munro and Southern Development sites. The purpose of this relocation is to enable use of the site as a public open space, supporting recent dramatic increases in neighbourhood population.
