Who or what inspires you professionally?
I research other architects for inspiration. I study their design methods and composition rules. I am interested in architectural history and modern movement architects. Their work inspires me and informs my design decisions.
LUCIANA M. LAZZARINI
Bio:
The Great Designer, Luciana Lazzarini, is a citizen from Argentina and a registered architect in South Carolina. Luciana has worked since 2004 as a lead designer in corporate, hospitality, and K-12 educational projects. She has delivered functional and well-designed buildings that have satisfied clients and end users and boosted the revenue of the companies she has worked for.
How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?
I grew up in Rosario, Argentina. Rosario has a rich architectural heritage of neoclassical, Art Nouveau, and Art Deco buildings that contrast with modern high-rises. Rosario inspired me to become an architect and it still fascinates me.
What do you do?
I design functional, inclusive and responsive buildings. I study the site, develop a mental model, research other architects, and create a design concept. I coordinate all the drawings, visit the job site, and check shop drawings.
What excites you in the work you do?
I design educational spaces that are safe, inclusive and sustainable. I consider educational goals and local needs in a collaborative process. I design schools that are flexible, learner-centered, and community-based.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?
I faced challenges in finding employment in the US due to my foreign education background. I overcame those challenges and was able to design award-winning projects while increasing the revenue of the companies I worked for.

The buildings are warm, inviting, and filled with natural light. The schools honor the local heritage of sweet grass baskets and plan for a sustainable future with LEED criteria. The campus provides a holistic learning experience for its students.
