Who or what inspires you professionally?

I am inspired by the individuals I see working in service the profession through involvement in organizations like AIA, NOMA, ACE Mentor Program, NAACP ACT-SO, etc. Time spent beyond the practice of Architecture to ensure the future of Architecture.

LORIANNE JONES

Bio:

LoriAnne balances professional practice with professional service. She is a Senior Project Manager at DIG, an MBE firm focused on “Architecture for Change.” Her work includes K‐12, Higher Ed, and Healthcare, with a special focus on Community Health Centers. LoriAnne has a passion for mentoring and is a board member and team leader for the ACE Mentor Program of NJ. She has been fortunate to see many of her ACE students join the profession and continue to mentor others.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

In grade school, I gravitated to real estate booklets and enjoyed books of home plans. I eventually took HS architectural drafting courses, learned hand drafting and made physical models. I later snagged a summer architectural internship in NYC.

What do you do?

I work on a wide range of project types as an architect and senior project manager. This includes academic, healthcare, community / civic, correctional, and government buildings. The common thread is using design skills to solve problems.

What excites you in the work you do?

I love learning about a client's mission and weaving it into an architectural design solution. Once construction is complete, it is gratifying to see the end users take ownership of a new building or space that has been designed to suit their needs.

Who or what inspires you professionally?

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

I am proud of my 17-year work history with Urban Health Plan Inc. As a high schooler considering architecture, I visited the construction site of their first new building with my father. I am now privileged to be one of their regular architects.
