Bio:
IThe great designer, Kelvonto Cooper is a North Carolina native that grew up in a small town near the coast. I received my bachelors from Campbell University where I double majored in Fine Art and Graphic Design. I received my architectural education from UNC Charlotte (M. Arch) and Tongji University, Shanghai (M. Arch). My professional experience is largely centered in healthcare and federal work and I am now working to gain experience in other sectors as I pursue licensure.
How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?
I've always had two main passions; design, and helping people. I discovered architecture as a pathway in High School during my senior project. It was my way to design and influence people's lives.
What do you do?
Currently most of my experience is in healthcare which has been an amazing journey. I've had so many opportunities to redesign the idea of visiting the hospital which is the ideal was of helping people through design.
What excites you in the work you do?
The constant challenge of how to use design to solve problems on the daily basis. Being able to take the pieces of a puzzle and organize them in ways that serve the client and the occupant.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?
My greatest professional accomplishments comes from my time working at HDR where I received peer nominated awards for my impact in the community.

Architecture Fits takes on the idea of defining a system that breaks away from the big box gyms and provides a more functional solution to allowing a building to be a machine for healthy living. The design takes into account the dynamic and unique use of space each user needs for activities and finds ways to connect and form the building through function.
