KELLY GORDON
Bio:
The great architect, Kelly Gordan is a licensed architect with 20+ years of experience in community-focused architecture. My education includes a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Virginia and a Masters of Architecture from Clemson University. I have worked professionally in Richmond, VA, Atlanta, GA and Charlotte, NC with projects ranging from museums, police stations and justice centers, to schools, performing arts centers, airports and zoos.
How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?
My childhood love for Legos and an Industrial Arts class in middle school started me on my path to architecture. I was also able to travel internationally when I was young, and the energy and architecture of those cities also contributed.
What do you do?
I love figuring out how to put a building together. The construction of the buildings I work on is especially interesting to me, as it always reveals learning opportunities that can be applied to the next project.
What excites you in the work you do?
The ability to see a building completed from foundation to finish is very rewarding. How the buildings impact the community they serve is so important to me and I’m inspired when I see patrons enjoying the facilities I design.
Who or what inspires you professionally?
Honestly, my colleagues at Little never fail to amaze me with the incredible work they do every day, how they juggle all that they do both personally and professionally, and how they truly care about each other, our clients and our community.
What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?
A colleague and myself created an in-house program that provides professional experience out in the field on building construction sites. Knowing that others are learning from seeing and experiencing building construction first hand is rewarding.
