Who or what inspires you professionally?
For many years I have been mentoring young professional in the architectural discipline. Especially young minority women which are underrepresented in the industry.

Bio:
The great architect, Kathy Denise Dixon, FAIA, NOMAC, LEED AP+ CDT, NCARB has been a contributor and respected leader in the architectural industry for nearly thirty years. She has been involved in every stage of the design and construction process and has experience in educational, commercial, residential and government projects. She is the co-author of the book titled “The Business of Architecture: Your Guide to a Financially Successful Firm” published in December 2017.
How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?
My father was an architect for the Corp of Engineers through his career. I first took a drafting class in ninth grade and decided to pursue architecture in college.
What do you do?
I am Principal and Owner of K. Dixon Architecture, PLLC. A full service architecture, planning and interior design firm delivering commercial design services to public and private clients.
What excites you in the work you do?
Making a difference in the lives of the people we work with. Making architecture relevant and apparent to everyone as we all experience and have influence over our immediate built environment.
Who or what inspires you professionally?

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?
There are many, most recently celebrating ten years teaching in the Department of Architecture at the University of the District of Columbia and helping the program to receive its NAAB accreditation.
