Who or what inspires you professionally?
Paul Revere Williams inspires me because of his accomplishes in a time where African American architects were not considered as knowledgeable as their white counter parts. He was able to become the most sought-after architect on the west coast.

Bio:
Julius Mitchell, BIM Manager at Orcutt | Winslow, has over 27 years of experience in healthcare and education design. He is well versed in all things technology and will ensure that the model integration between the engineers and architect is streamlined. His oversight of different phases of design and construction design has served the design and coordination of facilities across the country. Julius serves on the AIA Tennessee Board and is a proud member of NOMA.
How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?
When I was in the fifth grade I loved drawing and my art teacher took note and gave me several careers to investigate. Living in the Chicago area I would see tall buildings like Sears Tower, I knew right then I wanted to create buildings.
What do you do?
Currently I am the National BIM Manager for Orcutt | Winslow.
What excites you in the work you do?
What excites me now in the work I do is being able to educate people in Architecture and the software that can help Architects do their jobs more efficiently. Seeing other minorities attain licensure.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?
My proudest professional accomplishments was attaining my bachelor’s degree while working full time, getting my architectural license in Colorado and becoming an associate with our firm.

Featured Project Description:
Named for the generous donor whose contribution propelled the Career Planning and Development Center forward, the facility is designed to prepare the next generation of business executives and community leaders. Located on the historic Fisk University campus, this two-story building houses classrooms, conference rooms, innovation spaces, and a career services center. The overall result is training students to possess skills that will increase their marketability and competitiveness.
