SAY IT LOUD - SOUTH DAKOTA Exhibitor
South Dakota Based Designer

Who or what inspires you professionally?

I love old buildings. I wanted more exposure to historic projects, which prompted me joining the Rapid City Historic Preservation Commission. It is inspiring as we create outreach opportunities to educate the community about restoration solutions.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

I have always wanted to help people and love math, art, and design philosophy. Pursuing an architecture degree provided me the education to create solutions to benefit the health, safety and well-being of people through the built environment.

What do you do?

I am a project manager for Black Hills Energy. I manage our facility construction projects from design through construction. I work closely with operations across our 8-state region to strategize new projects, design efficiencies and standards.

What excites you in the work you do?

Most of my career has been spent working closely with owners to design to a budget. I continue to do this in my current role and enjoy designing spaces that provide safer environments for our critical operations to function daily.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

I have always loved projects that help the end-user. I spent about 4.5 years working on various healthcare projects for Monument Health in Rapid City. Hearing a patient compliment the improvement and comfort of a space is the ultimate reward.
