JARED M. GREEN

Langan Engineering and Environmental Services, Inc.

SAY IT LOUD - Pennsylvania Exhibitor

Pennsylvania Based Designer

Who or what inspires you professionally?

I have always been inspired by my family members that were able to make so much with the little that they were given. They did not make excuses, they worked hard and they never gave up. Specifically, my late granddad, late grandma and my late mom.

JARED M GREEN

Bio:
The great designer, Jared Green. While most people who walk through metropolitan cities probably notice the seemingly endless scaffolding, I was much more interested in finding out what lurks beneath the city streets. He and his team have helped clients overcome geotechnical, site/civil, and environmental engineering challenges and successfully develop buildings in several flourishing New York City and Philadelphia neighborhoods. In other words, he is a grown man who relishes the chance to play in the dirt.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?
I learned about architecture in my senior year of HS. I was told that people that are good at math, science, drafting and drawing should be architects. I ended up in engineering in college but I love that I get to work with architects every day.

What do you do?
I lead a team that is responsible for developing below-grade design solutions that are safe, economical and sustainable. We are responsible for essentially transforming sites so that new architectural designs can be brought to fruition.

What excites you in the work you do?
Seeing the transformation of an idea into a reality. I am always fascinated by this. As my design work is not really seen and experienced by the end user - am thankful for the opportunity to be a part of the overall design process of the team.

Who or what inspires you professionally?
I have always been inspired by my family members that were able to make so much with the little that they were given. They did not make excuses, they worked hard and they never gave up. Specifically, my late granddad, late grandma and my late mom.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?
My proudest professional accomplishment is actually a tie between becoming a shareholder at Langan... and also when I was inducted into the American Society of Civil Engineers Academy of Geo-Professionals as one of the youngest ever inductees.

Featured Project Name:
VIA 57 West

Featured Project Location:
Manhattan, New York

Featured Project Completion Date:
2016

Role in Featured Project:
Senior Project Manager

Featured Project Description:
VIA 57 West is a new residential building with a very defining massing. The building is a hybrid of the Manhattan skyscraper and the perimeter block sites with shared courtyards that are common of Copenhagen. The building sits atop a site that was formerly outboard of the shoreline and fully within the Hudson River. The variations in the top of rock required a hybrid foundation solution that included both deep foundations and shallow foundations.
