SAY IT LOUD - MICHIGAN Exhibitor
Michigan Based Designer
Who or what inspires you professionally?
I am most inspired by unique or new architectural typologies combining unlike spaces and places into one cohesive environment. These kinds of projects inspire me to dig deeper into the meaning of space and place.
HAYDEN ALYSSA PRILLWITZ
Bio:
Hayden is an architectural designer who is passionate in research and theory around carbon form and the design of resilient communities. She has conducted independent research in New York and Massachusetts to understand the cultural and spatial decay of coastal cities amid the carbon crisis. Hayden received her Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design from Michigan State University and received her Master of Architecture from Kendall College of Art and Design as part of Ferris State University.
How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?
I’ve always found myself in creative environments my entire life. Academics and education were also really important to me, and interior design and architecture allowed me to combine my love of creativity with research and academia.
What do you do?
I am an architectural designer focused in commercial design. I'm also a recent graduate where in my academic studies, I focused on architectural theory around carbon forms and climate impacts on spatial, political, and ecological environments.
What excites you in the work you do?
I'm most excited by learning something new every day and pushing the boundaries of the ways in which things have always been done in the past - both in the design of buildings as well as how those things are represented visually in drawings.
Who or what inspires you professionally?
I am most inspired by unique or new architectural typologies combining unlike spaces and places into one cohesive environment. These kinds of projects inspire me to dig deeper into the meaning of space and place.
What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?
Though I have only been a design professional post-grad for a few months, I was honored to be awarded the AIA Medal for Academic Excellence (formerly known as the Henry Adams Award) in 2023.

Featured Project Description:
“Agency in Post-Carbon Architecture | Volume 02” is a manual that analyzes existing conditions of urban spaces susceptible to climate change, and proposes a radical reorganization that is adaptive and resilient in a post-carbon environment through a typological approach. Composed of 20 topological architectures, this manual creates a language for individual communities to take agency in their own environments that are compromised by climate impacts.
