Bio:
The talented designer Haley Lukken is an interior designer at JLG Architects in Sioux Falls, SD. She earned a B.A. in Interior Design from SDSU and currently serves on the board of South Dakota Interior Designers and the Catholic Women's Professional League. Haley excels in detailed space planning and documentation for a range of projects, from public facilities to arenas and event centers. With a background in graphic design, she creates custom branding with user-appropriate finishes, demonstrating a commitment to timeless design that supports health and wellness.
How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?
I initially pursued Residential Design but fell in love with architecture classes and commercial studios. The history and typologies intrigued me, inspiring architectural tours everywhere I traveled. Commercial Interior Design was a perfect fit.
What do you do?
As an interior designer at JLG Architects, I work with the architectural designer to create a cohesive design from exterior to interior. I do space planning, finishes, and construction documents, touring the site in all phases to ensure accuracy.
What excites you in the work you do?
Everything about my job excites me. I love collaborating with clients, brainstorming ideas, and creating uniquely thriving spaces. I really enjoy infusing the client's personality into their vision through custom pantones, finishes, and materiality.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?
As a young designer, I am proud to see how far I've come since graduating, appreciating everything I've learned along the way. Only three years into my career, I'm happy to be part of two boards, and I feel like I've really grown in the community.

Featured Project Description:
A new athletics center that is part of the master plan for Dakota State University (DSU) that will connect with community and contribute to the growth of the university. The planned facility consists of spaces for student-athletes, administration, coaches, academics, fans, and flexible hospitality. More specifically, this plan includes upgrades to the football stadium, a relocated track, an esports arena, a new soccer field, indoor gathering space, and an Athletics Hall of Fame.
