Who or what inspires you professionally?
I am grateful to have a supportive family who encourage my professional development and endeavors. I also admire the many Black builders and designers who preceded me and whose buildings make up the communities I grew up in and live in.
GLENN VAULX III
Bio:
Glenn Vaulx III is a native of Memphis, TN. He is a 2020 Master of Architecture graduate of Howard University. Since graduating, Glenn has worked as a Project Coordinator at Self+Tucker Architects, Inc. in his hometown.
How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?
I learned about architecture formally when I began college. But, in my youth I noticed how certain spaces have specific cultural value to individuals and groups. I chose to study the built form based on my interactions with buildings culturally.
What do you do?
I am a Project Coordinator at Self+Tucker Architects, Inc. in Memphis, TN
What excites you in the work you do?
I enjoy engaging with clients who are excited about the future of their development. I also feel honored to participate on projects and teams that involve historic properties or communities.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?
Though I only have 2 years of professional experience, I really enjoyed working with the college students who were summer interns in our office. Working with them made me aware of how much I have learned and allowed me to share advice and skills.

Featured Project Description:
This project was my thesis. The project comprised 2 buildings that served as a research center and archive and a master plan of the project site. The project investigates how a physical structure dedicated to preserving the history and memory of an African-American neighborhood and its residents can provide a stable foundation for a community to grow, and expand a person's sense of identity and reality.

The historic Fourway Restaurant located in the Soulsville neighborhood of South Memphis celebrated its 75th anniversary with the opening of their new event center, the Fourway Legacy+. The event center features patio space for outdoor dining.
