EVA SOPEOGLOU

Bio:
The great designer, Eve Sopeoglou is a university lecturer and researcher with degrees in Architecture from the AUTh, Greece and from the University of Pennsylvania, currently completing a PhD in Architectural Design at the Bartlett, UCL. The practice overlaps designing and building, academic research and university teaching: materialising architectural designs that address ecological, technological or social agendas, whilst attracting design awards, research grants, publications and exhibited internationally.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?
A building with a profound impression on me, where I attended for 12 years of school, is designed by the prominent greek architect Dimitris Pikionis. Subsequently, I was drawn to study architecture to combine a passion for mathematics, art, fashion.

What do you do?
I am an architect, practitioner, researcher and academic. Currently I run my own practice between Greece and the UK, alongside being a Senior Lecturer of Architecture at Kingston School of Art. My research is on thermal comfort and sustainability.

What excites you in the work you do?
I am passionate and thoughtful about how a building, a space, the experience of architecture are carefully placed in context: the surrounding environment, nature. I design, research and teach about sustainable and environmental design.

Who or what inspires you professionally?
Architecture for outdoor living, temporary and temporal architectures from around the world. I enjoy visiting and studying buildings carefully constructed with craft, respect to materials, fabrication and technique using low or high technologies.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?
A practice-based PhD in Architectural Design at The Bartlett, when completed, very soon. Otherwise, a small self-built house near the beach in Greece. The project has been celebrated by the international architecture community for its poetic quality.
