ELLA GAUCI-SEDDON

Bio:

Ella is a Registered Landscape Architect in City Design at the City of Melbourne. Ella has over eight years experience working in the public and private sectors, as a university tutor and volunteering for AILA. This diverse experience affords her a unique perspective. A strong passion for equity drives Ella and her work. She believes that listening to the community and understanding site is key to developing outcomes that will be celebrated, now and into the future.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

It was a happy accident. I stumbled into it. The more I learned, the more I loved it. Through AILA and teaching I connected with the LA community. I found the richness of the industry and people committed to creating amazing cities and spaces.

What do you do?

My role as Landscape Architect in City Design is wide ranging. I work across strategic design, project design and delivery, design review and plenty more. I also teach and am involved with industry body AILA.

What excites you in the work you do? Who or what inspires you professionally?

The potential to have a positive social, cultural and environmental impact. Contributing to spaces and conversations that can benefit communities now and into the future.

I’m inspired by the community, my colleagues and peers, my mentors and my brother.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

In 2021 I was awarded the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects Presidents award. The award recognised my commitment to advocacy work, to the empowerment of women and to the progression of young professionals within landscape architecture.

Featured Project Description:

The Greenline will transform the north bank of the Yarra River – Birrarung into a reinvigorated and inspiring public waterfront. A 4km pathway will connect diverse, vibrant river side destinations. Aboriginal and contemporary cultures will be celebrated, as will the area’s historic values. The river and its surrounding environment will be re-established as an ecological corridor.
