How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

I wanted to be an architect since I was 8 years old, I studied floor plan magazines and started drawing floor plans. I loved it! My Grandmother suggested I be an architect as she knew a woman attending Virgina Tech architecture school.

What do you do?

I own two firms, DK Studio in Austin and AmityKett with a interior design partner in San Antonio. Both firms are residential design. We also created a podcast called Design Oracles to educate people about residential architecture.

What excites you in the work you do?

Working in residential architecture is very rewarding. I enjoy creating spaces people love to live in, plan organization of spaces, design elements and proportions of facades, and I love the emotional connection of place and heart.

Featured Project Location:

Austin Texas

Featured Project Completion Date:

January 2018

Role in Featured Project:

Architect - design and oversee construction

Featured Project Description:

Working with a previously underutilized site, we framed the sweeping views of rolling Texas hills on the property’s eastern side with a new 3,800 square foot home. A contemporary design features a clean exterior finished with stucco and accentuated with metal-clad boxes protruding from the main house to accent rows of expansive east-facing windows. A screened porch connects interior and exterior. Contemporary interior finishes provide a luxe feel while still feeling inviting and approachable.
