Who or what inspires you professionally?

I'm inspired by many things and take inspiration from everyday encounters whether it be a conversation, walking around a city, a night out with friends, books. I love fashion documentaries and contemporary art galleries, traveling also inspires me.

DEAN NORTON

Bio:

Dean Norton develops products that consider form, function, refined detailing, and harmony in materials. He aims to create enduring pieces that connect on an emotional level, merging a balance between art and design whilst maintaining a minimalist design aesthetic. Born 1981 England, Dean originally studied graphic design before continuing his journey as an interior designer, graduating in 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts degree (Hons) in Retail Interior Design from The University of Arts London.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

I developed an interest in architecture in my early twenties following some time overseas. I've always been interested in art and design. I decided on studying my degree in Interior Design after completing my diploma in Graphic Design.

What do you do?

Interior and furniture design. I design spaces and create objects of use that connect on an emotional level with the viewer and merge a balance between art and design.

What excites you in the work you do?

I love seeing a piece come to life and then watching how people interact and connect with it.

Who or what inspires you professionally?

I'm inspired by many things and take inspiration from everyday encounters whether it be a conversation, walking around a city, a night out with friends, books. I love fashion documentaries and contemporary art galleries, traveling also inspires me.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

I'd say my proudest achievement so far in my furniture career would be creating my first collection Moodlum and getting it off the ground. It was very much a learning process as my design background at that time was mainly Interior Design.
