Who or what inspires you professionally?

The legacy of a building is what inspires me. Something that I designed will remain tangible within the urban environment for many years inspires me. Generations that come after me will be able to see, touch and experience my thoughts and ideas.
DAVID ADJEI
Bio:
The great architect, David Adjei founded Cognition Architecture during his Masters studies to explore architecture and provide a source of income. As a master of BIM, and now RIBA and ARB Chartered architect, his business has gone from strength to strength through collaborative partnerships with, and adding value to, established architecture firms and developers. These experiences culminated in 2019 with the completion of Cognition’s first property development in Tooting Bec, South-West London.
How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?
I first learned about architecture during my GCSEs studies in Graphic Design. Following this, I still wanted to become a graphic designer, but then following an internship with the Construction Youth Trust, I decided that I would become an Architect.
What do you do?
I am the director of Cognition, which requires me to manage the business, lead projects and oversee BIM Management within the company. This places me as the face of the business to our clients and collaborators.
What excites you in the work you do?
The range of challenges and new experiences that I encounter running the business and the pursuit of their solutions, which requires the utilisation of all knowledge and experience is what excites me and inspired the name of the company.
Who or what inspires you professionally?
The legacy of a building is what inspires me. Something that I designed will remain tangible within the urban environment for many years inspires me. Generations that come after me will be able to see, touch and experience my thoughts and ideas.
What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?
The completion of the Trinity Road Project, which coincided with our Chartered Membership with the RIBA, this moment within the life of this company is a key milestone and solidifies our foundation as we look to expand in this new decade.

Lead Architect and Property Developer
Featured Project Description:
David Adjei founded Cognition Architecture, a RIBA Chartered practice and masters of BIM. The company has had massive success through collaborative partnerships with, and adding value to, developers and other architects. This methodology has allowed them to work on schemes valued between £300,000 to £2 billion. David’s continual push for innovation and new challenges culminated in 2019 with the successful delivery of the Trinity Road project, Cognition’s first as both property developer and Architect in South-West London. The infill scheme replaces a derelict timber shed and had to implement an attentive design, BIM and innovative construction techniques, including prefabrication, due to the site’s restricted access.
