Who or what inspires you professionally?

The communities I serve continue to inspire me. My firm immediate’ s focus is historically under invested and dis-invested communities in the Twin Cities.

Bio:

The Great architect, Damaris forges cross-cultural communication skills among architects through her design projects, advocacy efforts, and mentorship programs. Her empathy and ability to listen inform her approach, highlighting the importance of cultural fluency for the profession. With an Architectural and Urban Planning degree from the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Damaris moved to the USA in 2006 and has since become a Registered Architect, a LEED accredited professional and holds a NCARB certificate.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

I decided to be an architect when I was 7 but not because of the profession itself. I loved the possibility of being a career woman. I became interested in the built environment in college.

What do you do?

I am an architect and urban designer with a passion for equitable design and development. I lead project teams to to expand the reach of inclusive architecture as a way to promote social justice and to beautify all communities.

What excites you in the work you do?

Removing the “Black Box” nature of the architect client relationship to build the capacity of the client or the community to understand the process and imagine an outcome that meets their needs and supports their aspirations.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

Receiving the National Young Architect Award in 2019 and being nominated by the Twin Cities Business magazine one of 100 people to know in 2021 were my proudest professional achievement.

Featured Project Description:

The Resolute is thoughtfully designed to make an immediate impact on the community of North Minneapolis by creating a new standard on Broadway that promotes place-making while meeting the diverse economic needs of the area. The 71 residential units with have 58 rented at 50% AMI and 13 at 60% AMI to foster a mixed-income community and promote inclusivity. The retail in the main floor will have minority-owned businesses and create a pedestrian experience that invites commerce and community.
