Who or what inspires you professionally?
I am inspired by practitioners who endeavor to add a strong perspective to the profession. I am also inspired by those who work tirelessly to expose younger generations to the profession.

Bio:
The great architect, Daimian S. Hines AIA, NOMA, LEED AP, is a visionary design architect and an emerging critical voice in the design community who undertakes projects and pursuits that enhance communities and cultures. Daimian founded Hines Architecture + Design after returning practice in Southeast Asia. From its inception, he endeavored to challenge the form and focus of a traditional minority firm by starting and building a mission-driven global practice.
How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?
My introduction to architecture as a career was through 6th grade science teacher John Krieger. I believe he wanted to steer my displayed creativity in a direction that would balance creativity and what he understood, science.
What do you do?
I am an architect.
What excites you in the work you do?
New challenges and cultural engagement with various stake holders provides satisfaction with my work.

I am inspired by practitioners who endeavor to add a strong perspective to the profession. I am also inspired by those who work tirelessly to expose younger generations to the profession.
What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?
This submission is perhaps one of those moments. I was born and spent my early childhood in Jamaica. To be selected as a finalist to design the country’s future House of Parliament, is a great honor.

Featured Project Description:
The Jamaica Houses of Parliament design competition was established to deliver the countries first permanent center of government. Jamaica secured its independence from the United Kingdom in 1962 and the center of government has been temporary housed at the George William Gordon House. The current government endeavors to design and build the permanent facility which will reflect the character and pride of this island nation citizens in the projects iconic design and practical functionality.
