STEPHANIE LEMMO

Bio:

The great designer, Stephanie Lemmo received her Bachelor of Architecture degree from Rice University. Originally born in Puebla, Mexico, she has strong roots with her Hispanic heritage and multicultural background.Stephanie has taught a design studio at the University of Texas School of Architecture, and she serves as AIA Austin Women In Architecture Committee Chair-elect for the year 2021, as a panelist for the City of Austin’s Cultural Arts Division Art in Public Places, and as a member of the TxA EDI committee.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

I decided in middle school that I would pursue architecture. It started with a love for the arts and a yearning for urban cities, having grown up in rural Texas. The idea was cemented with a summer working with an uncle in Italy who was an architect.

What do you do?

I serve as the principal and co-founder of Lemmo Architecture and Design. I have over ten years of experience and co-lead all phases of design on all project types, including residential, commercial, and landscape design.

What excites you in the work you do?

I am interested in bringing together quality architecture, consideration for an ethical society, and a commitment to environmentally conscious design.I strive to create architecture that is in sync with site, context, landscape, culture, and people.

Who or what inspires you professionally?

Anyone addressing equity and socio political design issues within our profession is an inspiration. This includes those working towards more equitable and sustainable environments within architecture at all levels and scales.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

One of our first design projects as a firm, which consisted of only myself and my husband, was Clear Rock Ranch. This project received an AIA Austin and TxA design award and helped establish our design firm in the Austin and Texas design community.

Featured Project Name:

Springdale Pavilion

Featured Project Location:

Austin, Texas

Featured Project Completion Date:

2019

Role in Featured Project:

Lead Designer and Project Manager

Featured Project Description:

The Springdale Pavilion is an outdoor bathhouse, pump room, kitchen and sculptural shade canopy. The gently sloping plaster walls enclose the pool and canopy while two playful shade structures hold the bathhouse beneath. Because the project was on a very tight budget, the formal moves were balanced with cost conscious materials that would age well and provide texture. The West Texas inspired structure provides a unique sense of place in an East Austin community.
