SAY IT LOUD - North Carolina Exhibitor

North Carolina Based Designer

Who or what inspires you professionally?

Architecture is a complex balancing act of functional, practical, political, and aesthetic desires. I’m inspired by architect-leaders who can sort through all the design factors and guide large multi-disciplinary teams to create a beautiful outcome.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

An art history course I took in high school was my first introduction to architecture through the lens of Greek and Roman history. I started college in both engineering and architecture, and after a few years decided I wanted to be an architect.

What do you do?

I am an architect, primarily designing office towers. I work on all phases of building design, from early sketches and models of how the building will look and function, to the drawing of construction documents, to overseeing construction

What excites you in the work you do?

What excites me most is when people finally enter the building and start to inhabit it. We put so much care into designing our projects and overseeing the construction, and the pay-off is seeing other people who are excited and proud to use it.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

Seeing 405 Colorado emerge as a sculptural tower in Austin. I worked on the form as an intern, and it was the first project where a model I created became reality. It is humbling to contribute to the skyline of the city where I studied architecture.

Featured Project Location:

North Carolina

Featured Project Completion Date:

August 2021

Role in Featured Project:

Project Architect

Featured Project Description:

A downtown site in Austin, TX presented an opportunity to create a signature architecture to match the city’s progressive spirit. The towering sculptural glass form contrasts an earth-tone podium that echoes the character of the surrounding streetscape. The level between the two is carved back to create a terrace that wraps the amenity level. The combination of solid cladding and high-performing glass maximizes views and natural day-lighting while creating an efficient building envelope.
