Bio:
Casey Wong, Associate AIA (They/Them) is an architectural designer with Stantec, dedicated to designing a more equitable and just world. As an AIACV Equity Diversity & Inclusion Committee Co-Chair, they advocate and nurture equitable and inclusive spaces for marginalized communities. Casey also mentors youth in CREATE and ACE, programs that exposes youth to the architecture, construction, engineering, and trades industries.
How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?
As a five-year-old child, I was fascinated by the buildings and structures of ancient civilizations, especially the pyramids of ancient Egypt and Chinese temples. I decided in 8th grade that architectural industry was for me.
What do you do?
I am a designer and an aspiring architect. Currently, I am working on healthcare facilities. I have worked in the building sectors for education, residential, and commercial. I also bring my equity lense into each project that I work on.
What excites you in the work you do?
Being able to create and imagine structures and buildings from a drawing or idea and having it come to life excites me. Furthermore having those building be able to engage, empower, and build communities excites me.

Seeing communities engaged and included within their built environments inspired me professionally. The continuous push for justice and equity continue to inspire me everyday.
What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?
I was able to participate in a panel to push for all-inclusive restroom design - one that empowers people of all genders and abilities to feel safe and comfortable doing their business. This discussion helped encourage CA state plumbing code changes.

This project is a major tenant improvement renovation of a medical building in Sacramento. Suites have been reworked to include provider offices, exam rooms, consultation rooms, general offices, conference rooms, a staff lounge, and other support spaces.
