Who or what inspires you professionally?
What inspires me is seeing my profession being led by so many amazing, strong women. 20 years ago, specifiers were mostly white males, but my team comprises of talented, diverse women, many seasoned in the industry plus one emerging professional.
CARLOTA M. LONGO
Bio:
The Great designer, Carlota brings over 28 years of professional experience, including significant expertise in specifications. My previous work as a Facilities Coordinator for Ralph Lauren retail stores gave me an in-depth knowledge of construction and inspired my passion for architectural materials and details. As a Senior Specifications Writer, I enjoy working with a diverse portfolio of project types. I am of CSI and certified in CDT and LEED AP. I am also a member of the firm's JEDI Advocacy group.
How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?
My interest in architecture came when I was a Retail Facilities Coordinator for Ralph Lauren coordinating national accounts for repairs and projects across the U.S. and Canada. “Fixing things” piqued my interest in learning more about construction.
What do you do?
I am a Senior Specifications Writer, responsible for the technical specifications portion of Construction Documents for LS3P. I joined the firm in 2006, left for two years at the end of 2017, and returned to the firm in 2020; call me a boomerang.
What excites you in the work you do?
As a member of a firmwide support team, I collaborate across eight offices and work with all types of projects. I may jump from K-12 projects one day to specifications for a church, Class A office building, or an airport parking deck the next.
Who or what inspires you professionally?
What inspires me is seeing my profession being led by so many amazing, strong women. 20 years ago, specifiers were mostly white males, but my team comprises of talented, diverse women, many seasoned in the industry plus one emerging professional.
What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?
There are too many to just narrow down to one, but being instrumental in numerous projects at LS3P in a technical capacity, it gives me great joy to see our final work and beautiful designs upon their completion.
