CALVIN B MCCARGO JR

Bio:

The great architect, Calvin McCargo, Jr. is the Owner & Principal of DesignHAND Architects. Born and raised in the Washington DC area, Mr. McCargo has a Master's of Architecture degree from Morgan State University and over 16 years of experience in the architectural field. Mr. McCargo has a love and passion for architecture and people. His personal goal is to help create an accessible practice that can become a household name known for excellent and inspiring architecture focused on community empowerment and development.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

I really did not learn about architecture until college but I first had interest in becoming an architect in elementary school.

What do you do?

I am an artist of the built environment, a lawyer of design and a doctor of buildings. I am an architect.

What excites you in the work you do?

Everything from initial consultation with a client to grand openings and everything in-between.

Who or what inspires you professionally?

Great architecture and the positive effect it has on people and communities inspires me along with the hope to one day contribute to that inventory.

 

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

Getting my architectural license.

Featured Project Description:

It is the intent of Sanctuary Church to build a multifunctional church building that serves the community seven days a week, offering a variety of programs and amenities including a book store cafe, a computer lab, counseling center and a full service kitchen and fellowship hall for meal programs The upper two levels are dedicated to the sanctuary. The architectural vocabulary of the new Sanctuary Church will be a contemporary design with modern features that hint back to classical styling.

Featured Project Description:

As part of a commitment to better serve this community, MNCPPC has dedicated its efforts towards providing a state of the art community facility that looks to serve and further encourage progress in this area. This new 23,000sf contemporary facility brings new life to the surrounding area, cultivates education and promotes communal activity. The new community center includes a collegiate size gym with walking track, a dance studio, a multi=purpose room, a fitness center and classrooms.
