BRITTANY SINK

Bio:

The great designer, Brittany is in the MRA Planning and Urban Design City Studio. She is a registered landscape architect in the State of Maryland. Brittany has experience in providing master planning, site design and landscape architectural services associated with mixed-use developments, main street retail, corporate campuses, community recreation facilities, and residential community design. Her passion is human-scale design, that slows people down to absorb their surroundings.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

I have family members in the profession, exposing me to the world of design. When my strengths emerged as science & art, landscape architecture was a natural fit. I’m a tree-hugger, which made the transition into an environmental career seamless.

What do you do?

I am a planner/site-designer. I am responsible for site feasibility studies, illustrated sites plans, 3-D conceptual redevelopment models, landscape design, planting plans & site development plans. I maximize the best and highest use of land.

What excites you in the work you do?

Implementing sustainable practices and policies that conserve the planet and natural areas for future generations; also, making people more comfortable and excited to spend time outside by improving the built environments they experience.

Who or what inspires you professionally?

The design process of placing myself in the end users’ shoes to empathize with how they will experience or make a meaningful connection to a place. I’m obsessed with making places accessible for the most vulnerable & streamlined to feel natural.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

I’m most proud that I’ve found my way onto a multidisciplinary team where I can execute a hybridization of high-level design principles paired with detail-level implementation based on an understanding of site-related engineering restraints.
