Who or what inspires you professionally?
Many people do, starting off with several principals in my firm who are not just excellent in what they do, but also demonstrate such passion for what they believe in and maintain a balance to also cultivate experiences in their personal lives.
BARBARA WARREN
Bio:
The great designer, Barbara Warren is an Architect II at Overland Partners where she plays a project manager/architect role on hospitality and residential projects. Her interests and focus revolve around how architecture frames human interactions and has a passion for both technical applications and design direction for all her work. She holds a Master of Architecture from the University of Texas at San Antonio.
How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?
As a kid I always had an interest in how things are put together and function, had a strong sense of space, and highly enjoyed arts and design. Overtime architecture seemed to be the perfect combination of my abilities and my passion.
What do you do?
I play the role of project manager and project architect on various project types including hotels and residential. At the same time, I form part of the SAMFCO board where we are able to provide scholarships to exemplary Mexican-American students.
What excites you in the work you do?
I love problem solving for the unique challenges that we encounter as architects, and the impact we can have on people by creating beautiful spaces that frame interaction. This together with the technical implications makes every day interesting.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?
To direct the team on the creation of the Hemisfair Hotel documents, while coordinating a large list of partners and consultants. This while staying true to the design excellence required for such a key project for our city.

Sited in the heart of San Antonio, the Hemisfair Hotel is a mixed-use building located on the grounds of the HemisFair ’68 park. In this key location and the challenge of creating a seamless hem to the park, the hotel is designed to invite people through its strategic permeable edge to the public spaces within. Its 200-hotel rooms, meeting spaces, restaurants and shops will offer a place to celebrate San Antonio’s culture and History.
