Who or what inspires you professionally?

Our firm does community-based work – schools, hos- pitals and senior living communities. It is the mem- bers of the community who live, learn and work in our buildings who inspire me.

Ashley Mullhall

Bio:

The Great designer, Ashley leads High Performance Building and Sustainable Design at Orcutt Winslow guiding it to the goal of the 2030 Challenge. She manages a service line focused on high performance building science, energy and sustainability consulting, and designing deep green projects. Working with project teams, she coordinates the review and implementation of sustainability strategies and practices to ensure projects comply with high standards of sustainability and efficiency held by various certifications.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

My father could see the architect spark in me at an early age and brought to a construction site that was part of his owner’s representative job. He eventually got me a high school internship with the architect who designed his building.

What do you do?

I work to improve the design performance of our firm and the projects I touch. My passion is sustainable de- sign and thrive on all of the small victories we achieve in that on a daily basis.

What excites you in the work you do?

Empowering others to make a difference.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

A 2014 AIA COTE Top 10 Award for the ASU Health Services Building – I worked so hard on that project and it was so gratifying to see it achieve so much.

Featured Project Description:

Our goal is to create a center for spiritual development that merges science and spirituality in the
natural world in ways that serve the site and soul. The project is pursuing Living Building Challenge petal certification. There are 7 principals of spirituality that TSG believes guide humanity. These were represented with the 7 petals of the LBC: Joy-Health and Happiness Freedom-Equity Striving-Energy Service-Water Righteousness-Materials Goodness-Place Beauty-Beauty
