Who or what inspires you professionally?

ASHLEE CLAYBORNE

Bio:

The great designer Ashlee Clayborne is an NCIDQ-certified interior designer with over eight years of experience, including roles at both a boutique, interior-focused firm and a large commercial architecture firm. Her attention to detail and diverse background enrich every project she undertakes.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

After shadowing a local architect in high school, I was enthralled with the office's large drawing sets and materials. Architecture felt like the right path, aligning my early interests in travel and art with the conceptual side of design.

What do you do?

I am a commercial interior designer at JLG Architects. My project portfolio primarily consists of corporate, K-12 and civic building typologies.

What excites you in the work you do?

I love being a resource for my colleagues – helping with a material concern, answering project questions, or providing input on an interior-related topic. It's exciting to assist those who are vocal and curious about all things related to design!

Who or what inspires you professionally?

Travel is very inspiring to me as it relates to new ideas and interior concepts. I also feel a burst of inspiration after CEUs and conferences, specifically those related to culture and collaboration in the workplace.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

Becoming NCIDQ certified is my proudest moment (so far)! Graduating with a B.S. in Architecture, it felt great to test my interior knowledge, proving to myself that I had what it takes to work in the interior design world.
