ANNE ELIZABETH STACK

Bio:

The great designerAnne is an architectural Designer at Overland Partners. She got her Bachelors in Architecture and, Sustainability and Energy Engineering from UPenn and her MArch from the GSD. Born in Zimbabwe, working and studied in the UK, US, Australia and Greece she has seen the global importance of architecture and the impact of the built environment creating a passion for holistically sustainable architecture that focuses on people centred design.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

Architecture drew my attention with the churches of Italy where the craftsmen built with such thought and dedication. But it was only when I realized how buildings and design can impact people that I decided to pursue the profession.

What do you do?

I am an Architectural Designer at Overland Partners. I design and create solutions that impact people and the built environment.

What excites you in the work you do?

The interaction of people and space. How simple placements of walls, materials and light can influence how people interact, how they accomplish tasks, and how they relate to each other and the space.

Who or what inspires you professionally?

In Zimbabwe I saw how simple design decisions could drastically influence daily life, mitigate disease outbreaks, and provide access to education and health. Architecture as a tool for improving people’s quality of life.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

There have been many mini accomplishments and achievements. Navigating the profession, starting jobs, client meetings, first projects, CAs, CDs. Architecture feels like a constant of small achievements building to make a bigger one (no pun intended).

Featured Project Location:

Dripping Springs, TX

Featured Project Completion Date:

2022

Role in Featured Project:

Architectural Designer, Design, 3d Modeling

Featured Project Description:

Connecting to the natural landscape, the house is constructed with rammed earth, and expansive floor to ceiling windows, terracing with the natural grade. The solid presence of the 2-foot walls coupled with the airiness of the high ceilings and light filtering in from apertures, it poetically reinterprets this ancient building technique into contemporary living. A beautiful example of bringing together luxury and lifestyle with sustainability and resiliency; A House of Earth and Light
