Who or what inspires you professionally?

I am constantly inspired by the women and minorities paving the way for others in the field. Mostly I am inspired by my female colleagues taking on leadership roles whether it’s in the private or public sector

ANEL PASILLAS

Bio:

Anel Pasillas holds a Master of Architecture from Texas Tech University (2009). Anel specializes in civic, education, office, multi-family housing, and medical projects. She is committed to providing outstanding service and producing quality architecture. She has led several projects from schematic to completion including programming, design, and construction administration. Anel is known for her personal enthusiasm and ability to communicate and coordinate with all design team members.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

I started “space planning” as a girl when I would play with my dolls.I used old books as walls for their houses.I would sketch floor plans with crayons on a book.I learned about architecture in high school while taking architectural elective courses.

What do you do?

I am a Project Manager at InSitu Architecture. I take on projects from as early on as programming through project closeout. I also write specifications, do marketing, and currently I am working on updating our office templates and standards.

What excites you in the work you do? Who or what inspires you professionally?

I love to see clients excited about their projects and being able to deliver their visions into reality. I love to be able to solve problems collaboratively with clients and contractors.

Who or what inspires you professionally? What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

I am constantly inspired by the women and minorities paving the way for others in the field. Mostly I am inspired by my female colleagues taking on leadership roles whether it’s in the private or public sector

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

My proudest achievement is that I am able to work on different project typologies. I’ve worked on multi-million-dollar state-of-the-art projects as well as pro-bono projects for local non-profits.I am proud of every project for the lessons taught.

Featured Project Description:

The University of Texas at El Paso's Interdisciplinary Research Building is a five-story facility that In*Situ collaborated on with Perkins + Will, who served as the Architect of Record. This new state-of-the art facility houses a live animal vivarium, open wet and dry labs, collaborative spaces, doctorate research facilities, classrooms, and a auditorium.The exterior aesthetic was influenced by the Bhutanese vocabulary defined by the University of Texas at El Paso campus master plan since 1917.

Featured Project Description:

The Las Cruces Dental Plaza is a multi-building dental complex. It stands out in the desert southwest with its bold geometric shapes and non-traditional material palette. Each building is finished with burnished CMU block, white EIFS, and standing seam metal roofs. Although the buildings' exterior is similar, we worked with each individual owner to design an interior space with its own character.

Sun Metro Upper East Side Transit Center

Featured Project Description:

The Sun Metro Upper East Side Transit Center is a new 5,700 square foot transfer station that will anchor the eastern terminus of the Brio Bus Rapid Transit Line for the Sun Metro Montana corridor. It will accommodate the fast-developing east side of El Paso. The building includes waiting areas, restrooms, meeting room, security office, and driver’s lounge space. The site is intended to be used as a park and ride as well, therefore it can accommodate 160 spaces for commuter parking.
