SAY IT LOUD - SOUTH DAKOTA Exhibitor
South Dakota Based Designer

Who or what inspires you professionally?

My mentor, Kim Schmidt, is the woman who taught me so much of what I know. She was the lead architect for most projects in my career. She pushed me to lead with my heart, listen well, and push the boundaries of this box we sometimes put ourselves in.

AMANDA CHRISTINE WILLIAMS

Bio:

The great designer Amanda Christine Williams, a nationally certified interior designer and owner of ACW Design, has been practicing professionally since 2008. After graduating from South Dakota State University with a bachelor's degree in interior design, she provided design and project management for a wide range of project types, including VA medical facilities, corporate offices, and senior living communities, before opening ACW Design in 2018. Her company provides design services to architecture firms and businesses throughout the Black Hills.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

The home building process for my parents' new home really inspired me when I was younger, and my heart was set on design since. My time at SDSU, a more commercial design and architecture-focused program, is when I fell in love with commercial design.

What do you do?

I am an interior designer, project manager, business owner, wife and mom! I act as a consultant to local architecture firms and produce construction drawings for smaller business remodels. I focus on thoughtful, functional design that is timeless.

What excites you in the work you do?

I enjoy problem solving. With every project, remodel or new build, we are listening, solving problems, and improving lives. Whether its function, accessibility, or safety, there's a reason for it all. I love it when science meets creativity!

Who or what inspires you professionally?

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

I'd like to say it was starting my own business, but my greatest accomplishment is the relationships I have built with my clients. Clients turned friends, repeat clients and referrals - that's my success story.
