Who or what inspires you professionally?
What inspires me professionally is knowing the work I do every day has the ability to benefit and improve the lives of users like kids, staff, and the greater community on a daily basis.
ALICIA CHAVEZ
Bio:
As an Associate at Lionakis, Alicia Chavez brings over 25 years of architectural design experience. Alicia is responsible for overseeing the work of projects from Conceptual Phase to Construction Administration & has worked on many project types. Most recently, she has focused on K-12 Education projects. Alicia has a Bachelor of Architecture from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, and is a graduate of the Coalition for Adequate School Housing (CASH) Leadership Academy.
How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?
I first learned about architecture in the 5th grade when my best friend’s uncle. He was an architect who came from Mexico to visit my best friend’s family in the Sacramento suburbs.
What do you do?
I’m an Architect at Lionakis, and I have also served as Project Manager and Director during my time at the firm.
What excites you in the work you do?
What excites me the most about the work I do is just hoping to continue doing thoughtful work that has a transformative impact on people in their communities, as well as inspiring any young person who looks like me to make architecture their career.
Who or what inspires you professionally?
What inspires me professionally is knowing the work I do every day has the ability to benefit and improve the lives of users like kids, staff, and the greater community on a daily basis.
What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?
My proudest accomplishments are being a first-generation Mexican American college graduate and licensed architect. I see each project I work on is as my greatest accomplishment, I love to collaborate with my team to provide transformative designs.

Featured Project Description:
The new Arden Middle School replaces a campus built in 1938 and utilizes a single building design concept for the campus serving 1200 students at capacity. The 82,970 square foot campus consists of science, arts, and maker spaces as well as general classrooms equipped with NextGEN, flexible furniture. The theme of the project was centered around a computer “motherboard” with STEM-focused graphics and wayfinding contributing to the concept that the building can be a learning tool as well.
