SAY IT LOUD - SOUTH DAKOTA Exhibitor
South Dakota Based Designer

Who or what inspires you professionally?

Traveling is a huge inspiration to me. I am that person studying ceilings, floors, and wall finishes when I enter a building. I love visiting different cultures and seeing the community and lifestyle incorporated into their built environment.

ALECIA BEDARD

Bio:

Originally from Rapid City, the great designer Alecia Bedard is an interior designer at JLG Architects. She earned a B.A. in Interior Design from Seattle Pacific University and is licensed through the National Council for Interior Design Qualification. Alecia selects finishes, assists with visualization, and prepares design submittals, actively collaborating to provide solutions that meet both the projectÕs goals and budget. She has 10 years of experience in hospitality, education, wellness/sports, and community projects.

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

Raised in a family of medical professionals, I assumed I would take the same path, but high school dissection labs made it clear that science was not for me. My dad pushed me to chase my own interests in Interior Design, and I'm so grateful he did.

What do you do?

I'm part of the entire project process with the architectural designer. I build client relationships, define concepts and finishes, research, and document. I ensure design intent is captured via site visits, punch lists, and clear communication.

What excites you in the work you do?

I really enjoy finding new products and new ways to incorporate them into design. Design expo shows awaken my passion for design and discovery. I also love sharing the lessons I've learned through mentorship with new and emerging designers.

Who or what inspires you professionally?

Traveling is a huge inspiration to me. I am that person studying ceilings, floors, and wall finishes when I enter a building. I love visiting different cultures and seeing the community and lifestyle incorporated into their built environment.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

It's exciting to see my designs come to life, especially when they start from sketches. I love getting to know my clients and creating something that matches their goals and vision so closely that they make it their facility's new design standard.

Featured Project Name:

The Summit Arena at The Monument

Featured Project Location:

Rapid City, SD

Featured Project Completion Date:

Fall 2021

Role in Featured Project:

Interior Designer

Featured Project Description:

The Summit Arena was an addition to The Monument Arena, including the main arena, meeting spaces, admin spaces, ticketing, locker rooms, star rooms, and back-of-house. With 235,000 SF and a budget of $130 million, the programming process included community involvement and information gathering from user groups. Further insight led to the concept of five unique bar areas within the facility, each capturing a new audience while maintaining a cohesive design palette with unifying copper elements.
