SAY IT LOUD - NEW JERSEY Exhibitor
New Jersey Based Designer

Who or what inspires you professionally?

Nature and the arts inspire me in all that I do. If art is my soul, then nature composes the rest of me. Both are integral characteristics of me that show through no matter what I am doing.

ABIGAIL ROSE BOUSSIOS

Bio:

I’m a designer that flourishes in the arts. An experienced student leader who is outgoing and a hard worker, always pushing to excel and put 110% into all that I do. I see architecture as an opportunity to immersively create designs to exemplify community needs and issues we face as a society. I am always up for a challenge, ready to work, research, and collaborate with others. I love working with others to solve problems to better our urban environments, especially towards biodiversity

How did you first learn about architecture and when did you decide that built environment profession was an area of interest for you?

We never explored architecture deeply in my H.S. visual arts program, but it always fascinated me. I did set design for years, thinking it was my path, but architecture's ability to shape spaces that resonate with people connected with me more deeply

What do you do?

I am a Masters of Architecture student at Kean University's MGC School of Public Architecture and a Graduate Research Assistant. My research focuses on biodiversity in urban environments, genderized urban spaces, and community design initiatives

What excites you in the work you do?

The plentiful and multitudinous design/research opportunities that arises with the unbound knowledge it has to offer architecture. I'm drawn to the interconnections of our living and social environments and the impactful way architecture shapes them

Who or what inspires you professionally?

Nature and the arts inspire me in all that I do. If art is my soul, then nature composes the rest of me. Both are integral characteristics of me that show through no matter what I am doing.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment or achievement?

Being awarded for faculty-driven "Michael Award" in Dec.2024 for designing for the "Social Good" reinforced that my hard work towards the profession is meaningful, giving me the assurance that I'm on the path to helping others in architectural design

My project draws inspiration from Lina Bo Bardi's Teatro Oficina, capturing the fluidity of theatrical performances. Bixiga, with vibrant cultural events, serves as a thriving cultural hub. To reflect this dynamic environment, I designed a mixed-use development with intentional openings that invite public and foster interaction. These open spaces catalyze collaboration and creativity, providing a platform for young professionals and artist residencies to engage with the community and each other
